Casey and Nicole

By | Couples | No Comments

Casey and Nicole’s first pregnancy posed many health and relational challenges.

They faced an extended involuntary separation while Nicole and their baby underwent surgery and recovery in another state. After delivery, Nicole and their new baby girl needed special care in a city an hour and a half away from home while Casey was only able to visit on the weekends. After a couple of months of sporadic visits and little time spent together, they really began to feel the strain of being apart from each other.

The family is now all back together, and Back to Us, along with several sponsors, had the great fortune of sending Casey and Nicole on a much needed date night where they “were able to feel like a couple again.” This young family continues to settle in to their new life as parents, and we are grateful for the opportunity to have served them as we welcome them to the Back to Us family.

Shane and Amanda

Update: After 17 love filled months, Shane and Amanda’s son passed on. Your thoughts and prayers for this wonderful couple are much appreciated.

Lots of fun, time exclusively together, and a short honeymoon–these are things that Shane and Amanda haven’t had since their marriage started. Their infant son’s serious health complications have required all of their time, energy, and resources, leaving little left for them as a couple.

Through generous donors, Back to Us was able to give this couple exactly what they had yet to have in their marriage–a bit of a honeymoon that they were able to enjoy together. Shane and Amanda have experienced more stress in the first months of their marriage than most, and they are a great couple who are deeply committed to their family. We wish them the best of luck, and pray for health for their baby boy.

Matt and Katy

While most first-time parents finalize the nursery and stock up on diapers in the final weeks leading up to the birth of their baby, Matt and Katy were separated by over 300 miles. Once their baby daughter was born and the couple was reunited, the new family was confronted with some serious health complications with their daughter. Matt and Katy remained bedside in the hospital–day and night–for five straight weeks.

The couple was in need of a real bed, good food, privacy, and some fun. Back to Us is honored to have had the opportunity to provide exactly those things.

Matt and Katy are a very genuine couple with a fantastic friendship, and they are already in route to be great parents. We wish them all joy and health for the whole family.

Kevin and Janell

Kevin and Janell joined the Back to Us family from a nomination from Colorado’s Project 1.27. They are the parents of six biological children, and they have fostered fifteen kids in the last three years. Kevin and Janell are currently fostering two young boys, one of them a newborn, whom they hope to adopt into their family. These placements have been lengthy and draining, leaving the couple ready for a much-needed break.

Back to Us was pleased to provide a fun and luxurious weekend away for Kevin and Janell. When asked about the highlights of their weekend away, they laughed about this being the first time they could remember sharing a quiet dinner together at a restaurant. They also recalled how they felt overwhelmed with generosity which was a nice and welcome change from being overwhelmed with their life circumstances.

We are honored to have served such a wonderful couple and wish them all the best. Thank you to all of the donors and partners that helped make their weekend possible.

Dan and Hallie

Dan and Hallie are the parents of two teenage boys as well as a wonderful young lady who they are providing a home and family for. For the past year, they have been hoping and working toward adopting their foster daughter. Their addition to the household has placed significant strain on their current family dynamic as most of their time and energy has been focused on meeting the needs of their children.

Back to Us was able to provide a two-day mountain getaway for Dan and Hallie. In addition to simply spending time together, Dan and Hallie were able to participate in fun activities, allowing them to recharge as a couple. During their time away, they were reminded that strengthening their marriage influences their entire family. It has been such a privilege to serve and get to know Dan and Hallie’s family- we wish them all the best!

Nathan and Courtney

UPDATE: After 16 months in the hospital, Nathan and Courtney get to take their son home!

Nathan and Courtney have had a long road to travel over the last 11 months.

Their son was born in August of 2012 and has remained in the hospital since then. He was placed in a hospital two hours drive from home for much of this time. As the months ticked by, Nathan and Courtney needed to return to work, which limited their time with their son and with each other. They adjusted their work schedules to have as much family time as possible, but needless to say, a situation like theirs can leave a couple feeling drained.

Back to Us, along with a few donors and sponsors, were able to help create a bright spot in this long road for Nathan and Courtney.

The couple was provided with a complementary date night, night away, and a fun outing together. They said it had been a while since they were able to do anything fun together and they had a great time.

Back to Us is grateful to have had the opportunity to provide this time together for them. Nathan and Courtney are a very patient couple and we hope and wish that they soon return home—all of them together.

Jessica and Thomas

Jessica and Thomas had a normal pregnancy and were excited to welcome their first child into the world. On January 1, 2013, their daughter was born. Shortly after birth, several issues with her health were discovered, and she and Daddy were quickly flown from North Dakota to Children’s Hospital in Aurora, Colorado. Mommy joined them in Colorado as soon as she was discharged from the hospital. Baby girl has been a fighter and her parents are so excited about the progress she has made.

The young family has had to make several major life changes including relocating to a different state for a new job close to a hospital that can care for their daughter’s needs. They also have had the challenge of being in a new place, away from the comforts and privacy of home. Needless to say, this experience has been a major life changer for the family. With constant worry, visits from doctors and nurses, and 10 weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit, Thomas and Jessica needed a break.

With the help of several partners and donors, Back to Us had the honor of providing a night away for Thomas and Jessica, giving them some alone time and the chance to take a breath and connect as husband and wife. When asked how their time together was, they indicated they hadn’t realized how much they needed this time together. They are a fantastic couple full of thankfulness and hope for the future. Back to Us is truly grateful for the opportunity to serve them and we wish them all the best for the future.

Update: After 13 amazing and love filled months, Thomas and Jessica’s daughter passed on. Your thoughts and prayers for this amazing couple are much appreciated.
